MOURNE Golden Gloves Boxing Club travelled to Newry to compete in the Ulster Elite Senior Championships.

Representing the club was Caroline Connolly, boxing in her sixth senior final.

In the opposite corner was Maeve McCarron of Carrigart Boxing Club. This was Caroline’s first contest after a two year break from boxing.

As the bell sounded for the start of Round 1, Caroline put into action the fight plan advised by head coach Ben McGarrigle.

The Carrigart boxer decided to box on the front foot and the Strabane woman threw three and four punch combinations as she came forward then moved.

The stick and move plan continued for the duration of the fight with Caroline alternating her punches to body and head. When the contest ended the referee raised Caroline’s hand as the winner.

This was Caroline’s fifth senior title and her fourth at a different weight category. All the coaches and boxers at Mourne Golden Gloves would like to congratulate Caroline on this superb achievement.
