Excellent wins for Dergview and Athletic

Conor Carlin netted twice

NORTH Tyrone sides Dergview and Strabane Athletic recorded two excellent victories at the weekend.

Neil Carlin’s Athletic put last week’s disappointing Tennents Irish Cup exit behind them by hitting Oxford United Stars for six in their first NI Intermediate League game at the Templemore Sports Complex.

Conor Carlin and Ronan McBrearty helped themselves to braces apiece with Tom Carlin and Aaron Porter completing an impressive opening day win.

Dergview meanwhile posted their second Championship victory of the season by defeating Lurgan Celtic 3-1 at Knockramer Park.

An stunning early strike by Richard Lynch was cancelled out by a goal from Strabane man Warner Mullen in the opening minutes of the second half.

But it was to be the visitors’ day as Adam Buchanan secured the points with two rasping strikes – the first of which was a 20-yard free kick.

The win means Richard Clarke’s team have now taken eight points from their last 12.
