Injury forces ’Strabanimal’ out of homecoming bout

James Gallagher has suffered an injury ahead of his latest Bellator fight.

A KNEE injury has forced James Gallagher out of Bellator 187 at Dublin’s 3Arena where he was to face American opponent Jeremiah Labiano.

The 20-year-old made an announcement confirming a torn LCL and PCL on his Instagram account early this morning. While devastated that his homecoming bout has had to be shelved, Gallagher is determined to come back stronger than ever.

“Absolutely heartbroken to have to pull out from my fight,” he stated. “I’m going to let it heal up and recover 100% and I’ll be back stronger than ever! Hopefully we can get the ‘jimmy show’ back in the new year!”

He was looking forward to his first headline fight, which was to take place just half an hour from his home gym, SBG Ireland.

It was to be ‘The Strabanimal’s’ first bout since his sensational opening round submission of Chinzo Machida at Madison Square Garden and his first appearance in Dublin since his submission of American Anthony Taylor last December.

Gallagher has won all seven of his previous fights, six by submission, but the injury has dashed his hopes of taking his record to eight wins out of eight within the Bellator ranks.
