Strabane Athletic back in title race

Conor Carlin was on target for Strabane

SATURDAY was a day of mixed fortunes for local representatives Strabane Athletic and Ardstraw in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League.

Athletic bounced back from defeat to leaders Magherafelt Sky Blues and a painful League Cup exit at the hands of Trojans to record an impressive 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Maiden City.

Goals by Conor Carlin and Shane Brennan means Athletic remain second five points behind Magherafelt but with a game in hand.

The Sky Blues have now completed 10 games and stayed top following a 2-0 victory over Ardstraw, who until Saturday had won five on the bounce.

Ivan Sproule’s team are third with 16 points from nine matches while Maiden City are fourth with 12 points from five games.
