Help Michael make it to Hollywood

Michael Lafferty.

A BUDDING film-maker from Strabane is hoping the kindness of strangers can help fulfil dreams of making it to Hollywood.

Michael Lafferty, who already has a number of short films to his name, recently set up a crowd funding project to facilitate his mission to attend the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles.

Through his Go Fund Me page, Michael is banking on raising £5,000 to pay for tuition, accommodation, flights and visa expenses.

“It’s a two month course,” Michael explained. “I would go for a year but that would probably be asking too much.

“This film academy is one of the most respected places to learn about film in the whole world. And because this branch is in LA, it’s in the very heart of the film industry.”

Having recently returned from a month in London where he was doing a month’s film-making workshop at the Met Film School, Michael is now eager to further his education in another area of film-making, one where every film project always begins…the screenplay.

“I feel like I want to expand on my screenwriting,” Michael continued. “I would learn about format, how to pitch a screenplay and then there would be the option to create my own screen play.

“I’m really super-excited about this. I have a good feeling that it can work.”

To help Michael further his career in film-making and perhaps even facilitate his big break in the film industry, log onto and search for ‘Help Michael get to NY Film Academy’.
