Strabane’s ninja warrior

Strabane’s Paul Connolly is set to appear on the new series of Ninja Warrior UK.

A ‘NINJA’ from Strabane could be appearing on television as early as tonight (Saturday).

Paul Connolly (35) secured his place on the hit ITV show, Ninja Warrior UK after he auditioned for producers last summer in Belfast. And, with the new series of the show beginning this weekend, all eyes will be on the box to see if Paul’s attempt at the assault course is televised.

“I’m not sure when I’ll be on,” Paul admitted this week. “It could be this week or next week – I’m just not sure – maybe the week after that.”

Ninja Warrior UK promotes itself as the ultimate test of strength, speed and courage with viewers engrossed as contestants are pushed to their limits.

A manager at the health insurance agency, Optum in Letterkenny, Paul flew to Manchester to record the show in August of last year. This week however, he was remaining tight-lipped as to his progress on the now infamous assault course.

Will he take a dip in the water or beat the walls? Paul wasn’t saying.

“All I can say is: It was a definitely a good experience,” he laughed.

“I really did enjoy myself. My family all came to Manchester with me and we stayed in a hotel. It was brilliant. And they were all in the audience when I tackled the course.”

After his Ninja Warrior experience Paul says he would recommend more people audition for the show.

“Why not apply?” he asked. “I would say you’ll see more and more people apply for the show… it was such a good experience I would nearly reapply myself.”

• Ninja Warrior UK is on every Saturday night from 6.30pm on ITV.
