Teen due to appear in court following drill attack

A 17-year-old male has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and theft. He is expected to appear at Omagh Magistrates Court tomorrow, Monday, May 7 .

The charges are in relation to an attack with a drill on a 38-year-old woman in the Railway Road area of Strabane around 2am on Saturday. She received a serious head injury and remains in hospital. 

Police have indicated they are investigating a homophobic motive for the attack and have appealed for information from anyone who may have seen a male carrying a drill in the area or who witnessed the attack. 


As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
