THE family of a local teen amputee is holding an appreciation event in Strabane tomorrow night for locals who helped ‘Tristin’s Dream’ come true.
Mandy Stewart, mother of 15-year-old Tristin Stewart this week explained that the ‘Thank You Celebration’ at Christy’s Bar and Beer Garden in Strabane on Friday, August 3 is the least the family could do to show their eternal gratitude.
Tristin Stewart last year underwent rotationplasty surgery – this involved having his right leg amputated and then his foot reattached at the knee – after he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Synovial Sarcoma.
However following the operation, Tristin vowed that he would one day run again and to that end, he and his family have embarked on ‘Tristin’s Dream’, a fund-raising strategy to enable the teen to purchase a prosthetic leg.
“Basically, this is a thank you party,” mum, Mandy explained.
“We were sitting talking one night and we realised that since we started out on this, so many people have shown their support for Tristin. We just think that this thank you night would be a nice thing to do to show our appreciation. This was Tristin’s dream and it’s now becoming a reality.”
According to Mandy, the monies which are still coming in, should be enough to reach the golden £30,000 target so that Tristin can purchase and be fitted with the prosthetic leg.
“Without the support of everyone we couldn’t have done this for Tristin,” Mandy continued. “The support has been overwhelming.
“The thank you party is just a small way of saying a big thanks to everyone who supported Tristin.”
• Tristin’s Dream ‘Thank You Celebration’ will take place at Christy’s Bar and Beer Garden in Strabane on Friday, August 3 from 8pm until late. Music by T-Junction and Just Me and there will also be karaoke on the night.
