A CLADY runner who died suddenly earlier this year after a training jog with his club mates is to be remembered with a special night in his honour.
Adrian Devine was 41 when he passed away in January. A well known chef, he worked in Strabane with New Horizons, an organisation that provides support and employment to individuals with special needs.
Adrian took up running in 2013 and went on to complete his first marathon in 2015.
The father-of-three had only returned from a holiday in Dubai with his family when tragedy struck.
In a bid to keep his memory alive, Adrian’s club mates organised the ‘Adrian Devine Memorial Family Fun Run and Walk’ in July.
Later this month his spirit will be rekindled again, this time by his work pals. Friend Jacinta McGarrigle has organised a special night entitled ‘Remember Adrian’ for the Fir Trees Hotel on Saturday, October 27.
“I knew Adrian for years before I started working with him and he was just the loveliest fella. A gem, that’s the only way I could describe him,” said Jacinta.
“He is still so badly missed and we wanted to organise this night just to keep his memory alive and to remember him and the remarkable person he was.
“Tickets have sold really well and I have to thank Margaret O’Kane, Pat Devine and Claire McGarrigle for helping me with that. And if all goes well, I would love to make this an annual event because Adrian deserves to be remembered.”
In attendance will be Adrian’s wife, Joanne. She said it was lovely that so many people wanted to keep her late husband’s memory alive.
Joanne said, “The girls are putting that much effort into it and me and the kids will be going. With the effort that they are all going to, we’ll try to be there.
“It’s nice and it’s keeping Adrian’s memory alive. It’s nice of people to keep thinking of him and doing these things.”
• Remember Adrian will take place in the Fir Trees Hotel on October 27. Entry is £6, payable at the door, and things get
underway at 9.30pm.
