Dog…tastic fundraiser planned to help Natasha

A FUNDRAISER is being held for a Strabane teenager who recently underwent spinal surgery in Turkey.

Natasha O’Connor (14) suffers from a curvature of the spine and was diagnosed with ‘Thoracic Scoliosis’ earlier this year.

To help cover the expense of her surgery and recuperation which costs £35,000, Natasha’s family embarked on a fund-raising mission.

This weekend Doneyloop Community Centre is hosting a dog show, car boot sale and craft fair in aid of Natasha.
Martin Potts event organiser is encouraging as many people as possible to attend.

“Locally we are all very well aware of Natasha’s story and I wanted to show her and her family my support by hosting this event,” said Martin.

The local dog trainer who has been fund-raising for over 15 years says he wanted to host something completely different this time.

“Everyone loves dogs and I thought this was the perfect opportunity for all those dog lovers out there to come along with their families, and their dogs of course, and enjoy a fun packed day.

“We have a super dog show on offer, with ten fun dog classes for anyone to enter and 12 competition dog classes for the more professionally trained pets,” he explained.

“There will be face painting and refreshments and the big man himself, Santa, will also be making an appearance. Tea, coffee, soup and some tasty treats will also be available and we have some fantastic prizes up for grabs in our raffle.”

Martin added, “Natasha has gone through a lot in her young age and we wish her a full and speedy recovery following her operation.”
Talented dancer Natasha, who has represented Ireland on the world stage in Germany and also plays Gaelic football, flew to Turkey last week to undergo emergency anterior scoliosis corrective surgery commonly known as VBT.

Taking to social media to express the family’s gratitude Natasha’s mother Wendy said, “We would like to thank everyone who helped us in any way to fund-raise to make this possible. We will be forever grateful for all your help and support.”

The dog show, car boot sale and craft fair will take place on Sunday November 25 at Doneyloop Community Centre from 2-5pm. Car boot sale 10 euro per car, craft fair 10 euro per table, dog show 10 euro for all classes. All proceeds in aid of Natasha O’Connor. For more information contact Martin on 07935 509965.
