Hat’s off to a kind stranger

A STRABANE pensioner has this week hailed the kindness of strangers, after she was left humbled and thankful following an unexpected gift.

Local lady, Irene Robb says she still can’t believe the episode which transpired on Tuesday of last week, when a woman she didn’t know gave her a hat to fend off the icy wind.

Irene takes up the story…
“I’d like to thank someone I met but don’t know,” she began.

“Last Tuesday I was waiting to cross the road at the lights on Main Street when I met a young woman. The woman said, ‘It’s such a cold day, I’m glad I wore my hat.’ I said that I didn’t bring my hat as I don’t think hats suit me.

“We crossed the road then but I couldn’t believe it when the woman turned and came back to me, offering me her hat. She said, ‘Take that hat and put it on you. It’ll keep you warm.’”

Irene admits she was “stunned” at the gesture.

She continued, “I just want to thank her but I don’t know where she’s from.

“She was around 30-years-old and she was nicely dressed and had a young boy with her.

“It was such a nice thing to do and I still can’t get over it.”

She concluded, “Hopefully I’ll meet her again so that I can thank her properly. But I’ll be wearing my new hat now with pride.”
