AN energetic performance of the Baby Shark song has helped the  Gaelscoil to take home a €1,000 prize.

Principal Máire Ní Dhochartaigh says everyone is delighted to have  received the award.

“We are so proud of the pupils for winning the county prize for their  Gaelfhíseán as part of Bliain na Gaeilge,” said Ms Ní Dhochartaigh.

“Irish is central to our lives here, both in the school and in the  community, and we really enjoyed taking part in this competition.”

Bliain na Gaeilge was launched in 2018, by Conradh na Gaeilge as part  of a year long celebration of the Irish language.
For the programme schools were invited to create a short video  featuring a song in Irish, which had to be produced, recorded and  edited by the students.

Seán Ó Murchadha, awareness raising officer with Conradh na Gaeilge  who presented the cheque to Gaelscoil Uí Dhochartaigh praised the  school for their efforts.

“The Gaelfhíseán contest was highly competitive and the standard of  entries was excellent,” said Mr Ó Murchadha.

“It is clear that students really enjoyed taking part in the  competition and the teachers all deserve recognition of the effort
they put in to it.”
