Up to 4cm of snow recorded in some areas in Tyrone

PEOPLE across Tyrone awoke to very picturesque scenery this morning as a blanket of crisp, white snow covered grounds both high and low.

Heavy flurries fell overnight making travel conditions difficult this morning and road users are advised to take care as a weather warning is in place until 11am.

Some areas have been affected worse than others, Lough Fea in Cookstown registered a whopping 4cm of snow this morning while in Castlederg the snow was at least 1cm deep.

As a result of the poor weather conditions, Killen Primary School and Donemana Primary School will remain closed for the day.

Although snowfall is predicted to stop by this afternoon, it will remain bitterly cold into tonight, with temperatures expected to fall several degrees below freezing perhaps as low as -7 degrees.

Dense freezing fog overnight may also lead to some travel disruption tomorrow morning.
