A STRABANE filmmaker has taken his star-shaped dreams to the max by enrolling at the New York Film Academy in LA.
Rubbing shoulders with the famous faces of Hollywood Michael Lafferty is loving every moment of his two month adventure. He explained,
“This really is a screenwriter’s dream, to be able to study at the New York Film Academy is an amazing opportunity. At the moment I am learning so much about screenwriting – from character and story development, how to structure a screenplay, how to edit/cut it to the right length, some really useful stuff. It’s hard to believe I am half way through the course.”
And one moment of his American adventure which Michael is unlikely to forget in a hurry is his chance meeting with Lost Boys star Corey Feldman.
Michael explains. “There was a big night planned in memory of comic book creator Stan Lee at the Chinese Theatre, and I was lucky enough to get tickets. It was hosted by Kevin Smith and included question and answer sessions with the likes of Mark Hamill and Rob Liefeld. At one stage I went out to get a drink and that’s when I met Corey Feldman.
“He was just walking behind me and I said, ‘Mr Feldman’, he said ‘yes’, and then I went up and shook his hand. I said him it was good to meet him and told him that I supported what he was doing in Hollywood to raise awareness of sexual abuse victims, and I wished him well.
“He asked me a bit about where I was from, and about my screenwriting, and said he looked forward to seeing my movie released.
“It was funny because I had just watched The Lost Boys on the plane on the way over to America for the first time, and when I told him that he was shocked that planes were even still showing it. He is a great guy who took the time to talk to me, much respect.”
