Strabane woman competes in Special Olympics World Games

A STRABANE woman will take part in the Special Olympics World Games which get underway with the opening ceremony in Abu Dhabi today (Thursday).

Siobhan Dunne will compete as part of the Team Ireland ladies basketball team and the 27-year-old is one of four Tyrone athletes taking part in the Games.

Also participating is Shannon Nixon (21) from Coalisland, who will represent Team Ireland in athletics, Richard Currie (23) from Dungannon,  who will compete in bocce and Lee Mitchell (21) from Omagh will be vying for a medal finish in Equestrian events.


The Tyrone quartet is part of 91-strong Team Ireland which will compete in a Games that brings together 7, 000 athletes representing 170 countries.
