EXCITEMENT has moved beyond fever pitch at Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group.
The group’s big plans were unveiled to the children at Strabane Cricket Club as part of the big ‘Disney reveal’. Ostensibly the group will travel to Disneyland Paris in November 2020 – all things going to plan, namely the forthcoming epic fundraising mission.
“The children were so excited,” Hayley Devine from Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group said. “Some of their faces were a picture.”
“We did it on Down Syndrome Day as we always have a party to celebrate it. This time we had big box and put a balloon inside it with a sign that said, ‘We are all going to Disney!
“Now we’re going to launch a fundraising campaign that the public might help us get there.”
Strabane Down Syndrome Support Group was set up to help local families with Down Syndrome and act as a base of support. It was formed in 2014.
“It will be brilliant,” Hayley continued, referring to the trip.
“Some families would probably not ever have the chance to go to Disneyland Paris… It would be really great to go as a group, as we have all bonded so well.
“But we’re going to be paying our own way as well, in case people think we’re all looking for freebies.
“But to raise money to get the whole group to travel we’re going to be holding a number of fundraising events too, like a fashion show and sponsored walks.
“As a group we’d like to extend our gratitude to the people of the town as well for all their support over the years.”
A promotional video is expected to be launched on social media in the coming days and the group also plans to set up a Go Fund Me page.
