Brennan steps aside from Tyrone panel

LEE Brennan has decided to step away from the Tyrone panel after a recent lack of game-time.

The Trillick forward informed Mickey Harte of his decision over the weekend, and lined out in his club’s Division One match against Omagh on Saturday afternoon, scoring three points in a 3-6 to 1-9 defeat.

While his decision to pull the pin comes as a blow ahead of Saturday’s Ulster Championship quarter-final against Antrim, it isn’t a monumental shock as he seems to have fallen down the pecking order this season.

Brennan’s only league start was in a round two defeat to Mayo on February 3, and barring a 15-minute cameo against Cavan, he accrued no further game-time in Tyrone’s Division One campaign.

Nor did he feature in Tyrone’s Ulster Championship preliminary round over Derry a week ago, which seems to have been the final straw for the out-of-favour 23-year-old.

The news comes in the wake of Ronan O’Neill’s decision to leave the panel ahead of the championship, which possibly leaves Tyrone a little light on attacking options with Mark Bradley presently out of the picture as well.
