Strabane man delights in app recommendation

A GLOBAL technology publication has branded a Strabane man’s new social network, as one of the best free Android apps of 2019.

TechRadar, the online technology magazine recommended Rory Kelly’s ‘Curated’ app as one of the picks of the year so far, praise which the Strabane man says is already helping boost user numbers.

Curated was only released prior to Christmas but already has thousands of users.

A social app which encourages users to share and recommend quality content like articles, books and podcasts, Curated is also set to enjoy its iPhone release in the very near future.

The review from TechRadar stated, “Curated lets you curate a list of the movies, songs, articles, podcasts, books and other content that you come into contact with.

“Simply search for the content on the app or add a link, then add a short review and any relevant tags, and other users of the app will be able to read what you think. In turn, you can also see the content other people post and follow people with similar tastes to you, so it’s a way to share and find interesting new content of all kinds. You can comment on other people’s posts, browse specific tags to find related content, and save content that you want to remember to check out another time.”

It concluded, “It’s a good app, and with more people using it Curated could be great.”
Rory Kelly founded his own software company, Rockspin. He previously worked for Mind Candy the makers of Moshi Monsters and also in telecoms for a company acquired by Roman Abramovich.

This week, he remarked that he and his team are delighted with the shout-out from TechRadar.

“I think we’re over the moon,” Rory admitted.

“We’ve had some good press coverage this past while but this is definitely the biggest.

“Already it’s been good: The recommendation from TechRadar has increased our users by 10 per-cent. And an increase in users only pushes things forward.

“Things are going really well at the minute. We’re at the stage now where we’re trying to raise investment and this sort of thing allows us to take it to investors and point to it as validation.”

Curated is available to download from Google Play.
