TYRONE hit the jackpot at last week’s SuperCupNI draw when the County’s Junior squad was paired with Celtic and the Premier team was drawn against the might of Manchester United.
As well as facing United, David Harvey’s team will also take on Bracknell Town and Colina while the County’s under-15s, again managed this year by Martin Gallagher, have Global Premier Soccer and Vendee for company.
Chairman of the Tyrone SuperCupNI Association, Francie Devine, who had attended the draw with the County delegation, admitted that it felt like all Tyrone’s Christmasses had come at once.
“We are delighted with the draw although we could have waited until the Friday to meet United!” joked the chairman.
“I suppose we have managed to get two of the teams which all the other county sides would have been hoping to get paired with.
“United and Celtic are the headline grabbers but all round it’s a tough draw.
“There are no pushovers in the SuperCup. Our Premier team has been paired with Bracknell Town who has an Academy which has the reputation for producing top players.”
Devine has meanwhile thanked Alan Gregg, of Schimmel Distribution, for his valuable sponsorship of the Tyrone Association for the past five years.
Initially Schimmel came on board as a joint sponsors, then took over as chief sponsor for three years and stayed on for extra year in 2018.
“Alan Gregg has been loyal supporter of the Tyrone Milk/SuperCup over the past number of years and I want to put on record our thanks.
“Alan is a real gentleman and we bid him farewell,” said the Strabane man.
Devine was hopeful that he would be in a position to announce a new sponsor in the coming weeks as the countdown to this tournament, which runs from Monday, July 29 to Friday, August 2, begins in earnest.
Plans are also in place to host a pre-tournament event at MUSA in early July with the winners receiving the George Henderson Perpetual Cup.
