Sion Swifts Ladies…0
Two goals in the space of two minutes by striker Demi Vance condemned Sion Swifts Ladies to a heartbreaking defeat in last night’s League Cup final at Seaview.
Vance struck in the 76th and 77th minutes to secure the first major trophy of the season. Sion, missing a number of key players through injury and unavailability, battled right to the final whistle but rarely did Tony McGinley’s team look like mounting a late revival against vastly experienced opponents.
In truth the Glens shaded the verdict throughout and twice went close in the first half through Rachel Rogan while Sion stopper Nicole McClure denied Vance from the penalty spot.
Sion did improve after the interval with Glens keeper Emma Higgins saving a stinging volley by Zoe McGlynn.
That though was as good as it got for the North Tyrone outfit and Vance’s late double ultimately secured the silverware for the Belfast side.
Vance’s first came after she netted on the rebound following a Rogan header which came back off a post and less than 60 seconds later the striker raced clear to steer a low shot past McClure.
Despite the double hammer blow Swifts refused to throw in the towel but try as they might they couldn’t find a way back into the game.
