A STRICTLY Come Dancing group in Strabane has been nominated for a number of Spirit of Northern Ireland awards.
Strictly by M Dancin’, which is in the process of working on its 12th season of shows, were shortlisted for the coveted gongs earlier this month.
On Wednesday of last week, a camera crew from UTV visited St Patrick’s Hall in Strabane to talk to founder, Paul Mullen and some of the group’s previous strictly contestants.
The Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards shine a light on the inspirational people who embody the spirit of the community.
Over the years, Strictly by M Dancin’ has generated in excess of £850,000 for a range of charities, leading Paul Mullen at least to believe they have been shortlisted in the fundraising category.
“We’ve been nominated for three awards,” Paul explained.
“We got a call to say we’d been shortlisted but they wouldn’t tell us what for. But I’m guessing these are nominations for the fundraising.
“On Wednesday the crew from UTV came down and talked to us about that and how much we’d raised over the years.”
Paul and the Strictly by M Dancin’ team will now attend a gala ceremony at Titanic Belfast on June 5.
Hosted by UTV’s Marc Mallett and Pamela Ballintine, the gathering is expected to include a host of TV celebrities.
The winners of the Spirit of Northern Ireland Awards will be announced at this event and then the event itself will be broadcast at a later date on UTV.
“It’ll be a good experience, I’m sure,” Paul continued. “We’re very privileged to be nominated and shortlisted. We’re indebted to those who nominated us.”
Strictly by M Dancin’ is currently working on its 12th series of shows are looking for prospective dancers to take part.
