Trains, planes and Seaview for Nicole after World Cup

JUST 24 hours after making history as  part of the first ever Caribbean team and the first player from the Danske Bank Women’s Premiership to make an appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Nicole McClure was back in action for Sion Swifts Ladies.

The New York-born goalkeeper played during Jamiaca’s 4-1 defeat to a Sam Kerr-inspired Australia during their final group game in France on Tuesday night.

The next morning she left the team hotel, boarded a train and then took two flights in order to make it to Belfast to play for the Swifts against Crusaders Strikers in the Premiership on Wednesday night.

It was a worthwhile journey in the end as, not only did she keep a clean sheet, but her side won 4-0, thanks to goals from Lauren Brennan (2), Catherine Hyndman and Zoe McGlynn.

That result leaves Sion just two points behind the leaders, Glentoran, who they meet in the League Cup final back at Seaview next Friday night, June 28.

Coverage of Wednesday’s win and previews for the final will appear in next week’s Strabane Chronicle
