Clara revels in Glastonbury debut

A SINGER-SONGWRITER from Strabane says she remains “overwhelmed” by the response to her performances at Glastonbury.

Clara McHugh, who played four sets in all during her debut weekend at the world-renowned festival, added that the whole experience was “crazy.”

A student at the prestigious British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Brighton, Clara explained that her appearance at Glastonbury came about because of her uni.

“They got it all sorted for me,” she affirmed.

“They had a stage at the festival and it went from there. It was crazy, absolutely crazy. We had our own wee camping area and everything.

“The first day I played it wasn’t very busy because people were still coming into the festival. But the second day I played it was packed.”

Clara released her latest single back in March and already it has amassed thousands of views after Unilad Sound helped spread the word.

The local lady further explained that she was also given the opportunity to play on one of the main stages, an experience she says she’ll never forget.

“That was kinda cool,” she laughed. “It was very last minute but it was good.

“I played four sets overall. I was playing earlier on in the evening too so then I got to go to see whoever I wanted later.”

Highlights for Clara included Billie Eilish and The Killers.

She continued, “If anything this experience has reassured me but I’ve always known that this is what I wanted to do.

“In front of a crowd that big, it was amazing.

“Lots of people were coming up to me afterwards asking how to spell my name, saying that I had new fan. It was so weird. It made me feel kinda important.”
