MLA caught up in attempted fraud

A WEST Tyrone MLA has urged members of the public to be vigilant after  a fraudulent attempt to take money from his personal bank account.

Maolíosa McHugh  explained, “This week I noticed unusual transactions  on my bank statement, one in particular which was made in US dollars.

Following a phone call to my bank it became apparent that this was the  work of scammers involved in bank fraud.

“Thankfully since it has been reported the issue has been resolved and  is being monitored closely by the bank. However, had I not checked my  statement this could have been a lot worse,” he explained.

“I would urge the public to be vigilant of fraudulent activity such as  this and to ensure they check their bank statements regularly, whether  that is online, at an ATM or by hard copy.

“Fraudsters will go to any length to scam people out of money and you  think it will never happen to you, but it can.

“If you notice any suspicious activity on your bank statements please  report this immediately to your bank in order for them to take prompt  action.”
