Sion’s inspirational skipper hangs up her boots

KENDRA Semple McMullan, Sion Swifts Ladies’ inspirational skipper, has called it a day.

Last evening Sion Ladies announced that the midfield enforcer had retired from the local game.

In recent times Semple McMullan, 26, had been dogged by injury and illness and following her latest setback has decided that enough is enough.

During McMullan’s seven years as captain Sion won promotion from Division Two to the Danske Bank Premiership and in September 2017 she lifted the Irish Cup – Sion’s only senior trophy to date – after scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Newry City Ladies in the National Stadium.

The all-action midfielder loved her football and this decision certainly wouldn’t have come easy.

Sion’s No 7 jersey has been retired for the rest of the season.

In announcing the retirement a club statement ended by saying, “Thanks you for absolutely everything skipper.”
