THE sun shone on the roads of Donegal as Strabane Lifford Cycling Club hosted their annual Grand Prix open cycling road race.
Big numbers signed on for both the A3 and A4 road race. The large crowds spectating along the course got to see some great cycling.
The club would like to thank race director Vincent McCarron and his large support team who ensured Strabane Lifford CC hosted another great cycling event on the roads of the North West.
The club thanked all who helped out on the day, without this network of support these events would simply not happen.
The club would also like to thank Order of Malta Strabane, SAFE community rescue group from Strabane and Alice and Neil from Maggies Tavern for their invaluable assistance and support at the race.
Unfortunately the services of the ambulance cover were needed when there was a crash in the A3 road race, which left several riders with cuts and bruises and unfortunately one rider had to attend hospital. All at SLCC would like to wish Dunloy CCs Philip McGuigan a speedy recovery from the injuries suffered at the race.
In the A3 race we witnessed a super winning effort from race winner Conor Sprice from Lakeland CC who broke away early from the main bunch and kept the bunch at bay for nearly 40 miles of the 64 mile race, some performance from Conor who also took the KOH prime during his breakaway ride. An uphill finish saw the strong men of the bunch take the top placings on the day.
The A4 race saw a few break away efforts reeled back in by the bunch and it was the main peloton that contested for top honours on the day. Four Masters Ardal Mcdermott took the victory from Errigals Troy Hegarty. Duncan Halliday from Errigal CC won the KOH prize in the A4 race.
The club would also like to take this opportunity to wish their popular club member John Paul Connolly a speedy recovery after he suffered serious injury in a more recent road race at Fintona.
