Ardstraw face key game at Newbuildings

ARDSTRAW face a key game in their bid to reach the final of the Northern Ireland Intermediate League Cup when they visit Newbuildings United on Saturday.

Both sides are locked on seven points apeice with Newbuildings having played a game more. Victory on Saturday will put either side in a strong position to reach the decider which will be played over the Christmas and New Year period.

Dungiven, following Saturday’s 2-1 victory at Strabane Athetic, top the current standings with Newtowne second however with just three points separating the top five teams it’s still all to play for.

On Saturday past Nigel Boyd’s ‘Straw outfit remained firmly in contention following a 4-0 victory at basement boys Trojans, who have yet to register a point.

The Vaughan’s Holm side scored twice in each half with Jamie Finlay and Conrad Kee netting in the opening 45 minutes while defender Dale Robinson and substitute Paul Fusco completed a good afternoon’s work by both finding the net in the final 10 minutes. Strabane Athletic’s hopes are on the other hand hanging by a thread following that disappointing defeat to Dungiven Celtic.
