EIGHTIES for Aidan comes to the Fir Trees again this Saturday night, the sixth time the annual event will have been held.
Organised in memory of Strabane man Aidan McAteer, the forthcoming night aims to raise money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma NI.
Aidan was just 36 when he passed away in February 2014 following a brave battle with cancer.
In the aftermath of his passing, his friends united to remember the popular bar man with a night of ‘80s nostalgia.
Embracing the fancy dress theme in previous years, everyone from the Terminator to Marty McFly have turned up to celebrate Aidan McAteer’s short but colourful life.
This time around, as with last year’s event, the theme is extended to include the 1970s.
“The response has been brilliant so far,” one of the organisers and DJ on the night, Mickey Ferry remarked.
Mickey, who was a friend of Aidan’s said his old buddy would have loved the concept of the event.
“Aidan always loved the ‘80s and everything about the decade,” he continued. “He would have loved this.
“This’ll be our sixth one and so far they’ve been brilliant.
“Every year the response from local people has been fantastic and we want to keep building on that success.”
He added, “We decided to extend the theme to include the ‘70s a couple of years ago because it gives people more scope for dressing up and there are some great tunes from the ‘70s as well. We’ve definitely had some great costumes over the years. Last year I think it was, we had two girls turn up as Rubix’s Cubes.”
•The forthcoming ‘70/‘80s for Aidan will take place on Saturday, November 16 at the Fir Trees Hotel from 9.30pm. Entry is £5, payable at the door.
