Paul the raccoon does a runner

THE hunt is on for a serial escapologist raccoon outside Dunamanagh.

Paul, a former resident at Barrontop Farm, managed to flee his pen after he squeezed through “the weeist hole you’ve ever seen in your life.”

In fact, this is the second time Paul has done a runner. The previous occasion he made it all the way to Artigarvan whereupon he took up residence in a man’s attic.

However the main problem for Paul’s erstwhile handlers is finding the evasive raccoon.

George McGarrigle from Barrontop explained, “He doesn’t come out until night-time, which is the biggest problem. He sleeps all day and he’s impossible to see until he comes out.”

He continued, “When people ring me to say that they’ve seen him, by the time I get there, he’s gone.”

However George remains confident that Paul won’t remain at large for long.

“If he ever appears, people have been ringing like mad,” he explained. “He’ll end up in somebody’s yard eventually.

“He got out the first time and we didn’t see where or how he was getting out. But when it happened again I went at the pen until I found the hole. It’s the weeist hole you ever saw in your whole life.

“The last time he went to a man in Artigarvan. He really loved him and the man was feeding him. He was in his attic. I actually think he’s trying to get back there.”
