Aghyaran pub raises thousands for Air Ambulance

THE kind-hearted people of an Aghyaran pub have raised more than £5,000 for Air Ambulance NI.

Now in its fifth year, the annual fund raising weekend at Matt’s Bar in Aghyaran raised £5,335 for the Air Ambulance NI.

The local charity committee have raised a total of around £19,000 for various charities over the years including Tiny Life, Cancer Research and Marie Curie.

The event consisted of a ‘fun weekend’ where the committee organised various activities such as car washes, sponsored waxing, tug of war, assault courses, night at the races, tractor and truck run, barbeques and the main attraction is a live animal auction held in Matt’s Bar.

Matthew Browne, proprietor of Matt’s Bar, has thanked the local community for their generosity.

He said, “This year the event was hosted at the end of May and with the help of a lot of very generous local people buying tickets, bidding in the auction and giving us sponsorship the event managed to raise £5,335. This money was then donated to the Air Ambulance at the end of July. The committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped in anyway over the years with making this total possible. Also thanks to those who helped us organise and set up the event and also thanks to everyone who showed up on the weekend and donated in anyway. We look forward to another great weekend of fundraising in 2020.”
