Chairman Cassidy hoping Tyrone build on last year’s breakthrough

Tyrone County Camogie chairperson Tony Cassidy admits that it is frustrating that they are unable to build on last year’s breakthrough success for the sport- at the minute at least.

Tyrone Minors accounted for Kerry in the All-Ireland Final twelve months ago but this season the rug was pulled from under their feet before their campaign really got off the ground.

When the GAA called a halt to activities in mid March due to coronavirus the Seniors had just embarked on their National League campaign while the Minors were setting out to retain their All Ireland title.

Edendork native Cassidy admits that the contrast to this time last year couldn’t be any more stark.

“It was around the same time last year, a great day for camogie. It’s hard to believe it was a year ago and I suppose we had high hopes for this squad again.

“I would say we were favourites to retain the title, most of the players were still there and were of course a year older, it’s disappointing.”
