McMenamin appointed as Strabane player-manager

LIAM McMenamin has been appointed the new player-manager of Strabane Athletic FC.

McMenamin’s appointment was confirmed late last night and the man who captained the club to NI Intermediate League glory in the  2018-19 season takes over from Eamon Curry.

Curry stood down the week before last and the committee of Strabane Athletic FC have moved quickly to fill the managerial vacancy.

McMenamin, who as a player had spells at Dergview, Ballinamallard United and Dungannon Swifts, has secured the services of Marty Gormley as first team coach while last season’s reserve team manager Paul Connolly will act as his number two.

Announcing the appointment of former Sheffield Wednesday trainee club chairman Seamus McElroy said the defender has been a major figure at the club since he rejoined from playing in the Irish League.

“We believe that experience, added to knowledge gained from working very close to Eamon Curry over the last number of years, can help the club continue its development,” he said.

“Liam is well respected amongst the players and feels he has a bit more to give on the pitch, so will continue to play and manage the team.”

Paul Doherty has also been confirmed as manager of the Strabane Athletic reserve team for the 2020-21 season.
