ANN-MARIE McGlynn is the only woman named in the Ireland team for the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Gdynia, Poland, on October 17th.
She will join Kevin Seaward and Hugh Armstrong in the three-athlete squad and the Strabane woman is delighted to get the opportunity to don the Ireland vest again after hitting the qualifying mark in Barcelona in February.
“Getting the call was good,” she beamed. “I knew I was in it but it was just a matter of if they were going to send a squad with everything that’s going on.
“I hope I’ll be at my fittest when I get there but these championships are going to be a wee bit different. I don’t know what the standard is going to be like but I’ll be definitely be looking to run my best.
“It will be about having the Irish vest on and performing the best you can on the day.”
With her main goal remaining qualification for the marathon at the Tokyo Olympics, McGlynn feels the timing of the World Half Marathon Championships couldn’t be better.
“I’m in my fourth week of my marathon block, so I’ll be training for the half marathon within that,” she explained.
“I would always do a half marathon within my marathon programme so it
actually falls pretty good.”
